Pipe Coatings
We have manufactured and supplied corrosion protection system components for pipelines used in the transportation of natural gas, petroleum products and wastewater.
DEVELOPMENT OF COATING SYSTEMS
1998. The National Institute for Research in Chemistry together with our team, start an extensive research and experimentation programme of their own solutions for the development of cold applied self-adhesive strip-based pipeline insulation systems.
2000. Gas Band, a patented invention, marks the commencement of the production of self-adhesive corrosion protection tapes for mechanical protection. This type of tapes is used to insulate the Ukraine-Turkey (Dn 1200) natural gas transmission pipelines on the route through Romania. Tests show very good adhesion and excellent cathodic release (< 1 mm).
2001. The research and development programme continues with a constant concern to offer users the most advantageous and reliable solutions possible. This is how the GBPM type mixed corrosion and mechanical protection tapes (Technical Approval 001 - 04/ 617 - 2001) were developed. The use of these tapes means increased productivity and greater safety for applicators when handling and storing coated pipes.
2002. The range of use of insulated pipes is extended with the introduction of PGBPM type tapes (Technical Approval 001 - 04/813 - 2002), designed to coat pipes laid in soils infested with petroleum products.
2003. The company's specialists, through constant cooperation with customers and using the latest raw materials in the field (e.g. Engage-polyolefin-elastomers), introduced a new type of band – EBPM.
2004. The extension of the range of EBPM and PGBPM tapes has led to the approvals: Technical Approval 001 - 04/ 958 - 2004, Technical Approval 001 - 04/ 970 - 2004).
In response to the fact that in Romania natural gas and petroleum product pipelines are located in varied areas of relief and soils; starting from sandy soils, continuing with marshy areas and reaching up to crystalline and even rocky soils, special materials have appeared for additional mechanical protection: preformed polyethylene film and epoxy composite reinforced with glass fibre fabric.
These are used to make systems with excellent mechanical protection that meet the toughest conditions:
• Preformed polyethylene sheeting for additional mechanical protection for insulating pipes to be laid in marshy areas without sand bedding or groove reinforced pipes.
• SCE protection is used for the isolation of pipelines to be pulled through tunnels made by directional drilling for river or road underpasses.
2007-2008. The EBPM and PGBPM type strips have been retested and revised according to EN 12068.
In order to optimise the protection systems and in particular the operation under site conditions, S.C. Pro Auto Industries considered manufacturing heat-shrinkable sleeves.
2009-2013. The expansion of the product range to meet all the requirements of our customers led to the research, approval and production of a new Poliband corrosion and mechanical protection system. This system has a wide range of applications as well as the diversification of special primers and sealants.
During this period, the use of insulation systems based on epoxy composite reinforced with glass fabric or polyester non-woven tapes has become widespread.
